SHORT DESCRIPTION OF THE COURSES

AD426 Interactive Installations and Visual Interventions in Space

This course is an introduction to projects in the domain of new media and user experience (experience design). Students are presented with key areas and directions which can be classified as an intersection of art and technology in the most modern type. The course objective is development of creative opinion and multidisciplinary approach of projects.

AD441 Film and Video Compositing

The course objective is for students to acquire the basic concepts in the area of advanced video and movie compositing, as well as production of special effects. Students can acquire The Foundry Nuke work environment which is the top ability in the industry of special effects nowadays. The Nuke is a software which is a key tool in almost all big post-production studios around the world, from ILM to Digital Domain and Double Negative.

AD521 Programming in Visual Arts

Quartz Composer is platform for development of multidisciplinary content, this application is a part of the operating system OSX and directly uses the resources of the system. It renders in Open GL, OpenCL, meaning that it is operational in full MIDI and OSC communication. However, it is mostly used in the segment of the interactive and generative video server used in mapping projections to gallery installations. The course works with tools within the application, rendering pictures, creating conditional algorithms, communication with peripheries from the OSC link, Kinect type etc.

AD535 Design of a Unique User Experience

The design of a unique user experience is a new, growing multidisciplinary area where visual arts, interactivity, sound, creative coding, innovative business principles and technologies, as well as top hardware resources connect. The final results of such a project is a solution satisfying the specific needs of the artist, as well as the client, forming a new and unique impact on the end users and observers. Students are enabled to react and create solutions in a quality, timely and financially efficient manner, within their esthetic frame, by presenting the audience with the project assignment.

AD460 Introduction to Theory of Media

The course deals with general and specific theories of media (electronic, printed and new media), i.e the interpretative – critical relation of students towards this problems.

AD527 3D Modelling and Animation

The course deals with 3D modelling and animation technologies, as well as techniques of connecting computer generated and live taken picture. Students learn methods of making 3D models, text, connecting models with a sketch, animation, light, rendering, 3d tracking of live recorded material and integration of computer generated pictures and video material. It entails basic and advanced techniques of digital generated picture, the course is aimed at students with knowledge in this area, as well as students who have not had a chance to work with this technology.

AD531 Video in New Media

This course enables students to work with advanced level of application of visual content in projects in the area of new media, with emphasis on video projections and large scale. From America, to France and Britain and the Far East, video mapping, with and without interaction, has become one of the key mechanism of communication of visual content within event design (design of events and spectacles). Students will work with technologies of projection mapping, as well as try to work in real production circumstance on a miniature model.

AD447 Mobile Applications Design

Course outcomes are: Familiarity with the development process of mobile apps by learning about various technologies and development frameworks; usage of advanced technology and tools for mobile apps design and development. Students work on practical assignments in the scope of mobile interface design using HTML5 and jQuery Mobile, they create interactive prototypes with available software frameworks. They learn interface animation tools, dynamic content, user experience design and use them in their art projects. Their individual studies are about (1) Design of the user experience and information architecture (2) GUI and interactive prototype of mobile application (3) Creative implementation of device orientation techniques (4) Online campaign for a famous brand with integrated mobile technology- concept and design (5) Concept and design for creative mobile game.
